Professional Experience :

Dr. Sabeeha N.B.A. Khadaroo is currently a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, a position she has held since October 2022. Her responsibilities in this role include conducting lectures, tutorials, and assessments; providing student consultation and mentoring; developing curriculum and instructional materials; conducting laboratory classes and demonstrations; and expanding learning activities for the Chemical Engineering department. Her research duties involve developing a portfolio of research activities, disseminating scholarly output, supervising students, developing a biofuel research group, securing grants, and building a collaborative research network. Prior to this, Dr. Khadaroo served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Monash University, Malaysia Campus, from April 2017 to October 2020. In this role, she delivered online practical classes and tutorials, planned and delivered laboratory demonstrations, supported self-directed student learning, graded assignments, and supervised final-year project and undergraduate research opportunity program students.

Research Interest:

Dr. Khadaroo’s research focuses on developing economically, technically, and environmentally feasible engineering solutions aligned with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals. Her work aims to improve waste management processes across various industries for efficient waste-to-energy conversion and explore sustainable fuel alternatives. Key areas include reusing treated wastewater for non-potable purposes, harnessing renewable energy from waste, and producing bioenergy, biofuels, and biochemicals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and address the growing global fuel demand.

Doctoral Research:

Dr. Khadaroo’s Ph.D. research investigated integrating thermal pretreatment and dewatering in the anaerobic co-digestion of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME). The proposed process aimed to enhance biogas production and improve treated effluent quality by eliminating cooling ponds and integrating thermal pretreatment technology with a dewatering device. The thesis presented a more sustainable POME treatment process, supported by an energy analysis case study comparing the proposed method with existing technologies.
