Dr. Badreddine Smiri is a Postdoctoral Researcher at CEA Grenoble, working in collaboration with LMGP, LTM, and Leti as part of the Labex MINOS project. His research focuses on material characterization in diverse fields, such as 2D materials, phase-change memory (PCM), Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator (FDSOI) technology (SiGe), and power electronics (GaN). He is skilled in various characterization techniques, including Photoluminescence (PL), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Additionally, Dr. Smiri is proficient in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, and LabVIEW, and has experience with tools like Labspec, Zemax, and Origin.

Dr. Smiri earned his Ph.D. in Physics of Materials from the Laboratoire de Micro-Optoélectroniques et Nanostructures, Tunisia (2016-2019), where his dissertation focused on the optoelectronic properties of III-V semiconductor heterostructures. He also holds a Master’s degree in Materials and Nanostructures (2014-2016) with distinction, concentrating on the modeling and characterization of electrical properties of III-V heterostructures for photovoltaic applications. Additionally, Dr. Smiri has undergone multiple safety and technical training, including electrical safety, chemical risk management, laser safety, cryogenics, and cleanroom fabrication.

Research Interest 

Dr. Smiri’s research interests include the characterization of advanced materials, such as 2D materials, semiconductor heterostructures, quantum wells, quantum dots, and novel optoelectronic materials. His expertise spans optoelectronics, nanostructures, microelectronics, and power electronics, with a particular focus on enhancing the performance of materials used in optoelectronic devices and nanotechnology.

Professional Experience

Since 2022, Dr. Smiri has been a postdoctoral researcher at CEA Grenoble, specializing in optical metrology for micro/nanoelectronics. His work involves structural and optical characterizations (Raman, XRD, PL, SEM, AFM, XPS, XRF) and monitoring the stability of measurement equipment. He also performs in/ex-situ material characterizations (GaN, InGaAs, MoS2, GaSe) and contributes to the continuous improvement of Raman-related products. Prior to his current role, Dr. Smiri served as an Attaché Temporaire d’Enseignement et de Recherche (ATER) at INSA Toulouse (2020-2022), where he conducted research on semiconductor structures for next-generation optoelectronic and electronic devices. Additionally, he held a short-term postdoctoral position at the Laboratory of Micro-Optoelectronics and Nanostructures, Tunisia (2020), focused on the optical and electronic properties of III-V and II-VI semiconductors. Earlier in his career, Dr. Smiri managed photoluminescence characterization as a doctoral researcher, where he oversaw optical characterization activities for semiconductor materials.
